The Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergy at Royal North Shore Hospital is based in Pathology North (Northern Sydney Division) and in the Acute Service Building and provides consultations, investigation and management of patients with autoimmune diseases, primary and secondary immunodeficiencies and allergies.
Opening hours
Primary Immunodeficiency and Autoimmunity – Clinic 6, Ambulatory Care Centre – Monday 13:00-17:00
Paediatric Allergy, General Allergy – Clinic 6, Ambulatory Care Centre – Tuesday 08:30-12:30
HIV Clinic – Level 5, Community Health Centre – Tuesday 08:30-12:30 (every second week)
Drug Allergy, Anaesthetic Allergy – Clinic 6, Ambulatory Care Centre – Wednesday 08:30-12:30
Immuno-Ophthalmology – Clinic 4, Ambulatory Care Centre – Wednesday 08:30-12:30 (every 3 months)
Neuroimmunology – Clinic 2, Ambulatory Care Centre – Thursday (every first Thursday of the month) 13:00-17:00
General Allergy – Clinic 6, Ambulatory Care Centre – Friday 08:30-12:30
The immunology service provides assessment and management of the following conditions:
Inborn errors of immunity and acquired immunodeficiencies including HIV
Autoimmune diseases including SLE, Sjogren’s syndrome, vasculitis, sarcoid, IgG4-related disease
Neuroimmune diseases as part of the multidisciplinary neuroimmunology clinic
Autoimmune eye disease as part of the immuno-ophthalmology clinic
The allergy service provides assessment and management for adults and children with the following conditions:
Allergy/Anaphylaxis to foods, aeroallergens, drugs, vaccines and insects
Chronic urticaria
Angioedema
Atopic disease (atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis and asthma)
Mast cell disorders
Treatments and procedures:
Allergy testing/skin testing, patch testing
Administration of allergen immunotherapy (oral, sublingual or subcutaneous)
Patient training on administration of biologic agents for autoimmune disease, chronic urticaria and atopic disease
Oral food and drug challenges
Subcutaneous Immunoglobulin (SCIg) administration and training
C1 inhibitor administration and training
The RNSH immunology clinic is unable to provide a service for the following
Paediatric autoimmune diseases and inborn errors of immunity
Isolated chronic fatigue
Elimination diet for behavioural management
Food intolerances/Irritable bowel syndrome
Pruritus without rash
